Court Reissues Opinion in Computer Search Case

The Pennsylvania Superior Court has reissued an opinion in the case of a man who faces criminal charges because his computer, which he had wanted serviced, was seized by police without a warrant after store personnel alerted them to files containing purported child pornography. When an individual abandons control over personal property, no objection can be raised to an ensuing lawful search by police, the panel found, again reversing a lower court ruling that had granted the defendant's suppression motion.
