EU Officials Studying Google-DoubleClick Merger

European regulators are investigating whether a proposed merger of the Internet search engine Google and the dominant online advertiser DoubleClick would violate competition regulations, even as U.S. authorities approved an American marriage between the two companies. The European Commission's "initial market investigation indicated that the proposed merger would raise competition concerns in the markets," the commission said in a statement announcing its recent decision to launch an investigation.
